2014 Beauty is Coming up Roses

Rose-Beauty

Happy 2014! How did everyone ring in the New Year? After a meat and potato-filled dinner date with my husband, we settled in at home.  Partially because of the snow and cold – PJs sounded so cozy! – but also because we wanted to binge on the last few episodes of Breaking Bad. I watched entirely too many episodes over the holidays and it was heavy. I’m pretty sad it’s all over.

I spent much of New Year’s Day doing some much-needed organizing and spa-ing at home. Nothing like a detoxifying mask to kick start your year! And, I’m starting my 2014 beauty routine off on a rosy note. Literally.

Tammy-Fender

If you were to sneak into my skin care shelf, you’d see that rose oil is a common ingredient in my favorites. Rose is the most valuable of all essential oils — it takes more than 5,000 petals to even produce a single drop! At the top of my list is Tammy Fender Quintessential Serum, a highly concentrated anti-aging serum that feeds skin and gives immediate radiance. This stuff is no joke! It is perfect for the winter months as it acts like a blanket for the skin (in a good way). The ingredients are powerful enough to undo many a skin care sins. I rarely use facial lotions these days, but really like Weleda Rose Smoothing Lotion. The texture is light and it layers well over serums and other treatments. The price is fantastic and it just smells so incredible that I just can’t help but breathe it in.

I’ve also been slathering my lips in R.L. Linden & Co’s La Balmba Rosa balm. The ingredient list is stellar — Bulgarian rose, meadowfoam, avocado and coconut oil, and more. I don’t wear lipstick without slathering this on first. Also, it’s thanks to the Linden Beauty ladies that I heard about this rose shampoo!  I must try.

Sonia Kashuk did it again with this floral printed brush set. I can’t even believe the quality of each of the five brushes for under $15. The blush brush is the perfect density and size and I love the angled foundation brush with my Kjaer Weis foundation. Also, the perfect brightening lip color? Look no further than the rosy-hued Laqa & Co Lil’ Lip Duo. These chubby little lip crayons are the cutest things ever and super moisturizing on lips (shea butter, baby!

Happy New Year, Laurie! Thanks for sharing this, roses are so all-around lovely!

You mentioned you’ve rarely been using facial lotions these days- what are you using in place of facial lotions in your skincare routine? Balms? I’m thinking about replacing lotions with balms or another alternative in my routine and would love to hear what you’re doing now!

Happy 2014, boo! What a great accumulation of beautiful and skin-healthy goods! That rose balm is particularly enticing…

Ooh yay on Breaking Bad! My fiance an I did a marathon (all 5 seasons….) in a matter of weeks a couple months ago. It was so ridiculously good but I am still sad that it’s over. I wish I’d been watching it since 2008 so I’d been able to enjoy it longer! Have you ever watched The Walking Dead? It’s really good and addictive!

Rose oil, wow! I’m really loving how all these new types of oils are finding their way into beauty prods.
I live in Brazil, and over here everyone’s going nuts for Bamboo, Coconut and Palm oils in skin creams.

And now I realise why. These oils are nature’s way of protecting plants, so it makes sense they’ll protect our skin too.

Thanks for a great post, and heres to a happy new year, full of more natural prods.

Happy New Year!!! I love this post. I am obsessed with all things roses! I drink pure rose tea all the time, it’s incredibly relaxing. I love that Weleda lotion and the R.L. Linden & Co. La Balmba Rose is one of my favorites! So wonderful. I have to look into that Tammy Fender oil – it sounds dreamy!
By the way – what camera do you use? Your photographs are always perfect. <3

Britanie, happy New Year, pretty! Rose is the ultimate zen scent – which tea is your fav? I just tried a Kusmi Rose Green tea that I love. Hooked! I shoot with a Canon Rebel T3 DSLR…I’m completely amateur, but working on it. Thanks:)

I have the Canon Rebel T3i! Are you using the lens that came with it or something else? Your photos of products always look so crystal clear. Do you use a telephoto lens or anything?

I have to look into the Kusmi Rose Green Tea because I love Rose AND Green teas so I bet that tastes delicious! I love using just pure organic rose petals and steeping them in hot water, I add a little honey and it’s delicious 🙂 I also like to add rose petals to other teas. I buy a big bag of rose petals and it makes it really easy to use them in so many ways. It’s great for baths too 🙂

Hey Britanie! I use the lens that came with the camera, but play with the settings a lot. No exact science but I take a lot of options when I shoot anything! A fellow blogger in Chicago just intro’d me to the Macro lens for that model and I think I’m going to order it from Amazon.

I like your idea of rose petals in the bath! How romantic…will go great with all of the candles I like to light during bathtime. It’s seriously the only way I stay warm these days!
