2014 Beauty is Coming up Roses

Rose-Beauty

Happy 2014! How did everyone ring in the New Year? After a meat and potato-filled dinner date with my husband, we settled in at home.  Partially because of the snow and cold – PJs sounded so cozy! – but also because we wanted to binge on the last few episodes of Breaking Bad. I watched entirely too many episodes over the holidays and it was heavy. I’m pretty sad it’s all over.

I spent much of New Year’s Day doing some much-needed organizing and spa-ing at home. Nothing like a detoxifying mask to kick start your year! And, I’m starting my 2014 beauty routine off on a rosy note. Literally.

Tammy-Fender

If you were to sneak into my skin care shelf, you’d see that rose oil is a common ingredient in my favorites. Rose is the most valuable of all essential oils — it takes more than 5,000 petals to even produce a single drop! At the top of my list is Tammy Fender Quintessential Serum, a highly concentrated anti-aging serum that feeds skin and gives immediate radiance. This stuff is no joke! It is perfect for the winter months as it acts like a blanket for the skin (in a good way). The ingredients are powerful enough to undo many a skin care sins. I rarely use facial lotions these days, but really like Weleda Rose Smoothing Lotion. The texture is light and it layers well over serums and other treatments. The price is fantastic and it just smells so incredible that I just can’t help but breathe it in.

I’ve also been slathering my lips in R.L. Linden & Co’s La Balmba Rosa balm. The ingredient list is stellar — Bulgarian rose, meadowfoam, avocado and coconut oil, and more. I don’t wear lipstick without slathering this on first. Also, it’s thanks to the Linden Beauty ladies that I heard about this rose shampoo!  I must try.

Sonia Kashuk did it again with this floral printed brush set. I can’t even believe the quality of each of the five brushes for under $15. The blush brush is the perfect density and size and I love the angled foundation brush with my Kjaer Weis foundation. Also, the perfect brightening lip color? Look no further than the rosy-hued Laqa & Co Lil’ Lip Duo. These chubby little lip crayons are the cutest things ever and super moisturizing on lips (shea butter, baby!

Beauty Serums for the Body

Once you begin beauty oil-ing, you just don’t stop. It’s been the best skin care shake-up for me. It makes sense to extend that goodness to the body, right? Skin care absolutely shouldn’t be limited to just the skin on our face. Lucky for us, body serums are a growing trend. I’ve begun dabbling with these body serums by One Love Organics (oh, the Rose!) and have noticed a difference in my skin. It’s smoother to the touch and I feel good knowing that my largest organ is absorbing healthy ingredients that actually benefit skin. La Bella Figura is set to launch one soon – and you know the ingredient list will be turn-back-time style. And this month, celebrity makeup artist Lina Hanson— of Global Face Serum beauty oil fame!— is launching her new Global Body Serum.

Lina preps and primes some of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood with her Face Serum – Natalie Portman, Emma Stone and Morena Baccarin have all sported the Lina-induced global glow. Like its sister oil, the Global Body Serum contains 10 super oils sourced from around the globe: rice bran, apricot kernel, argan, yuzu, vanilla, camellia seed, brazil nut, pumpkin seed, grapefruit and avocado.  Isn’t it refreshing to be able to pronounce all of the ingredients? What’s even better is how it feels to massage this on to damp skin. Just as you do your face serums, press this on to your skin. I focus it on my chest to start and then blend outward. I mix a few drops of it in with my Weleda when moisturizing my legs as I don’t want to use too much of the oil (it’s a splurge!)

Lina timed the launch of Global Body Serum to World Environment Day, June 5. A splurge on either of her Global Serums from June 15 through August 15 means 15% of proceeds go to the International Rescue Committee. Global Body Serum retails for $63 and is available at LinaHanson.com.

P.S. While we’re on the topic of splurges, it’s only fair to share my favorite budget body oil buy! Check it here

Weleda Natural Body Lotion

I’ve taken to a new lotion, guys, and I’m pretty excited about it. Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Body Lotion is beyond.  The ingredient list meets my high standards – filled with natural oils, butters and all sorts of healthy ingredients, and the texture is airy and light. Heading into spring weather, I’ve been looking for a new lightweight body moisturizer in a fresh (but not synthetic) scent. Skin is our largest organ and the whole purpose of moisturizer is for skin to drink it up, so it’s really important to me that I know exactly what I’m spreading on my body. The organic pomegranate seed oil gives a healthy boost of antioxidants that ultimately helps stimulate cell renewal. And bonus? I love the ergo-friendly bottle and the pump — a new design that Weleda just rolled out. I picked this up at Whole Foods after testing it out in my April Birchbox and must have debated on which of the four scents to buy for a good 15 minutes. Honestly, I was too impatient to wait for an online order to arrive and needed it that moment! Up next on my list is the Citrus, which smells of lemon zest and uses blend of olive and coconut oils. You can see the full line, including Rose and Sea Buckthorn, here!
