Pretty Picks: $15 and under

PrettyPicks15

How was everyone’s weekend? We went to see a movie on Saturday – Nonstop. It was good but plane movies give me anxiety so I’m not sure why I did that to myself. The weekend also began at 60 degrees on Friday, yet we woke up to lake effect snow on Sunday. Relentless, ugh. I’ve decided now to take it all in stride. No more complaining about the weather, promise. It can only go up from here! Starting with a few pretty pick, all under $15.

Molton Brown body wash is everything and now a few of those irresistible scents exist in hand cream form. YES! // Ban.Do bobbies…I mean, how cute is this ‘cool’ one?  // Illume Go Be Lovely Demi Perfumes take the cake for on-the-go frag. I can’t quite part with the outer packaging of my tube. // I want to stuff all of my makeup in these floral printed bags from Sonia Kashuk’s spring collection. Especially this double-zip pouch.  // The Revlon manicure kit that looks like a Marchesa gown. // EcoTools has a new brush made for BB and CC creams. // Yes to…a new grapefruit lip balm that costs less than a tall soy misto. // These Hard Candy eye shadows remind me so much of the limited edition version Stila put out last year. I’m eyeing up this neutral blend.

2014 Beauty is Coming up Roses

Rose-Beauty

Happy 2014! How did everyone ring in the New Year? After a meat and potato-filled dinner date with my husband, we settled in at home.  Partially because of the snow and cold – PJs sounded so cozy! – but also because we wanted to binge on the last few episodes of Breaking Bad. I watched entirely too many episodes over the holidays and it was heavy. I’m pretty sad it’s all over.

I spent much of New Year’s Day doing some much-needed organizing and spa-ing at home. Nothing like a detoxifying mask to kick start your year! And, I’m starting my 2014 beauty routine off on a rosy note. Literally.

Tammy-Fender

If you were to sneak into my skin care shelf, you’d see that rose oil is a common ingredient in my favorites. Rose is the most valuable of all essential oils — it takes more than 5,000 petals to even produce a single drop! At the top of my list is Tammy Fender Quintessential Serum, a highly concentrated anti-aging serum that feeds skin and gives immediate radiance. This stuff is no joke! It is perfect for the winter months as it acts like a blanket for the skin (in a good way). The ingredients are powerful enough to undo many a skin care sins. I rarely use facial lotions these days, but really like Weleda Rose Smoothing Lotion. The texture is light and it layers well over serums and other treatments. The price is fantastic and it just smells so incredible that I just can’t help but breathe it in.

I’ve also been slathering my lips in R.L. Linden & Co’s La Balmba Rosa balm. The ingredient list is stellar — Bulgarian rose, meadowfoam, avocado and coconut oil, and more. I don’t wear lipstick without slathering this on first. Also, it’s thanks to the Linden Beauty ladies that I heard about this rose shampoo!  I must try.

Sonia Kashuk did it again with this floral printed brush set. I can’t even believe the quality of each of the five brushes for under $15. The blush brush is the perfect density and size and I love the angled foundation brush with my Kjaer Weis foundation. Also, the perfect brightening lip color? Look no further than the rosy-hued Laqa & Co Lil’ Lip Duo. These chubby little lip crayons are the cutest things ever and super moisturizing on lips (shea butter, baby!

A Luxe Holiday

Holiday-Gift-Guide-Luxe

What are the holidays without extravagance? Eat the extra cookie and wear as much sparkle as you want. It’s never too much. Today’s luxe gift guide, for the beauty junkie in your life, channels this theme.

I adore this sparkly trio of polishes from Jin Soon. And, thankfully they are a package deal because honestly, who could pickjust one?

Dear Santa, please bring me this Chantecaille Diamond Palette.

Kjaer Weis and their weighty compacts ooze luxury. How fancy would you feel whipping this Lip Tint out of your purse for a touch-up?

Guerlain always releases a gasp-worthy meteorite face powder for the holidays. This year’s version is extra slick.

If you’re going to spend $65+ on a candle (oy), may as well make it a Diptyque holiday edition.

Luxe without the price tag? Sonia Kashuk has you covered with this brush set.

The Best $15 You’ll Spend on Makeup Brushes, Maybe Ever

Sonia-Kashuk-Brush-Set-Spring-2013

I may or may not have a problem. The one where you go to Target for paper towel and a birthday card and you walk out with $100 worth of stuff. You know what I’m talking about.  It’s for that reason my husband does most of our Target runs. I’m notorious for forgetting things on our list. If it’s not written on paper, I usually get distracted by shiny things. The latest example? This Sonia Kashuk brush set in her adorable dot print for spring! I cannot even believe that this set, which includes 5 brushes, is under $15.  The quality is incredible and the cute factor is insanely high.

The Fluffy Eye Shadow brush reminds me of a hybrid between two of my favorite MAC brushes — the 224 and 226. Technically for eyes, but it would be great for concealer or even dusting on a setting powder strategically. I’ve been using it to sweep a touch of this bronzer above my crease.

My favorite brush of the set is the powder brush. It feels like it costs at least three times the amount of the entire set! The bristles are super soft, and it applies bronzer and blush flawlessly. There are two other eye brushes, an angled contour brush that you can use to sweep color all over the lid, and a flat shader that I love to smudge eyeliners with. As for the flat foundation brush, I use it to apply cream blush and highlighter. It gives me more control and the synthetic fibers don’t absorb the product like a brush with natural hair would.

At less than $3 a brush, this set is a must!
