Julianne Moore is absolutely STUNNING on the cover of the October InStyle. I’m freaking out over that emerald and purple necklace. She sure knows how to dress for her hair. Within the pages of the mag, I also spied one of my fav Chicago salons getting a little love! George the Salon was included in the InStyle 2013 Beauty Black Book for “Best Haircut” in Chicago. The editors praise salon director and stylist George Gonzales for his “scoring” technique:

“Gonzalez cuts the length of the hair when wet, crafting face-framing layers for a volume-boosting effect. Once hair is dry, he pulls out interior layers, weaving them through his fingers to expose and snip dead, damaged ends for a smooth, healthy finish.”

For the month of October, George the Salon is offering 20 perfect off haircuts when you mention “InStyle” booking your appointment! Fellow 312 beauties, you’d be wise to pay George and friends a visit this month.

312 Pretty: George the Salon

Davines-Vegetarian-Treatment

At the start of the year, I made a few commitments. a.k.a. resolutions. I’m not totally against that word, no. I guess I’ve just always associated it with inaction, the anti-commitment if you will. But this girl put pen to paper and decided to make some lifestyle adjustments. On that list you’ll find developing a regular workout routine and of course eating more greens. Both are happening, woo!  But it’s when veggies meet hair that I get really excited. I took a trip to George the Salon a few weeks ago to experience the Vegetarian Miracle Conditioning Treatment. Courtesy of George and team, they pampered me with the two-part veggie infusion and a sleek blowout.

The first part is an intense conditioning treatment using Davines Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner, which contains avocado, acai and rice oils. It’s left on for about 10 minutes and followed up with Davines Living Enzyme Infusion Spray which contains proteins to strengthen strands and a special enzyme to protect your hair from damage. The combo, which is offered for $20 at George, is a nice treat and add-on to another service. My hair felt like silk afterwards and is still looking especially shiny. Plus, I loathe getting regular trims so treatments like these are how I prolong trips that include scissors.

Me and the fabulous George Gonzalez

After my blowout, I had a chance to chat with thee George. He hails from the world of Oprah/Harpo, where he styled for more than a decade before opening his own salon about five years ago. George has a long list of services to pretty you up, and most recently teamed with celeb manicurist Jade Morales to offer Salon-goers manis and hand scrub treatments. Hair + mani is always a welcome all-in-one for me. 312 ladies, take note.
